Mad On Music™ FAQs Page

HOW MANY LESSONS DOES MY CHILD RECEIVE A YEAR?
MOM works on a 36-lesson calendar per year. Prep and Grade Ones are invoiced for 29 lessons as they start in Term 2. These lessons are dispersed through the appropriate terms according to how long each term is. Where possible, MOM reserves the last week of any given term as a SPARE WEEK.  We do not charge you for this week, it is kept in reserve for makeups for curriculum days, public holidays, teacher absences or anything else that may arise.  This allows MOM to have some flexibility to ensure all missed lessons are made up before the end of each term. To help better understand we have outlined the structure for the year:

Students are reminded to keep to a strict home practice schedule of 20 minutes per day.  This will aid in regular advancement.  Practice! Practice! Practice!

REGARDING BOOKS & TIME OF LESSON
All existing students are reminded to bring relevant books to the first lesson and EVERY LESSON thereafter. When books are left at home this greatly affects the progress of your child. All new students will receive relevant books at their 1st lesson. If you have not finalised your account please do as asap, as MOM has purchased books on your behalf and needs to be reimbursed. All guitar students please bring your guitars. Keyboards are provided by the teacher for keyboard lessons. Students must also come to lessons on time. NB: MOM teachers cannot make up time for students coming late to their lessons.

STUDENTS LESSON TIME
Please make sure your child is aware of his/her lesson time and that they are arriving on time.  If the teacher needs to run around between the classrooms looking for a student it can effectively cut into the lesson time and be extremely disruptive to others in the group.  Mad On Music cannot be responsible for shorter lessons due to student tardiness. If students are unsure of their times they are to see their MOM Teacher immediately.

CURRICULUM DAYS / SPORTS DAYS / SWIMMING TIMETABLES
Please ensure to let Mad On Music know of Sports Days/Curriculum Days/Swimming etc. Mad on Music needs to be informed at least one week prior from either the parents or the school in order to give a makeup.  Parents, please help by letting the Mad on Music office know of this as early as you can.

STUDENT ABSENCES
If a student is ill on the day of a lesson, Mad on Music is required to be advised of the student's absence before 9.00am on the day of the lesson, either by phone or email, otherwise no opportunity to make up the missed lesson will be provided. Makeup lessons once given will be documented on your child's Signature Chart.

MAKEUPS
Does my child get a makeup if they are sick? A makeup lesson is given when the parent has called the MOM music office before 9.00am. This is given when the child is sick, funeral, doctors appointment etc.. As a general rule, there is only 1 make up lesson per term. On occasion, there will be situations where teachers will be called to be somewhat accommodating and give another makeup. All make ups are generally made BEFORE the end of each term.

WILL I RECEEIVE A REPORT ON MY CHILD’S PROGRESS?
Yes. Grade 2-6 students will receive a report in term 2 and Prep and 1 students will receive a report in term 4.

DO GRADE 2-6’S GET A REPORT IN TERM 4?
No . All grade 2-6’swill sit a Mad On Music Exam in term 4. They will be individually tested on their playing ability. All students will receive a written report of their performance and a certificate highlighting their achievement.

CONCERT RUNDOWN
All students are expected to attend school during the day of the concert, where there will be rehearsals and the daytime concert.  The daytime concert is an opportunity for students to perform in front of their friends and also helps keep things fresh in their minds for the evening concert, which starts promptly at the designated time for your school.  So, mark your concert date in your diary and keep that night free because it is going to be loads of fun – you are going to see a showcase of the finest musicians under lights!

PRODUCTION CONCERT COST
The concert is a non-profit event designed to enhance the students' musical life, improve their musical skills, and give them a taste of a professional performance setting. The 'Production Cost' per family of $30.00 (GST inclusive) is compulsory and is calculated according to the total amount of students learning in Term 3.

TELEPHONE CALLS TO THE MAD ON MUSIC OFFICE DURING CONCERT SEASON
Just a reminder to get in early with all pre-concert queries, as phone calls may not be responded to on concert days due to office staff helping at schools to set up for concerts.  Please email if you cannot get through.

DO WE OPEN THE SEALED SECTION OF THE MAD ON MUSIC THEORY BOOKS?
No. This is for the teacher to do when the time is ready. Inside are things that your child requires throughout the year which the teacher will explain.

INVOICING
Mad On Music will send all invoices out 3 weeks before the end of every school term. Note that Term 1 invoices for existing students will be sent out 3 weeks prior to the end of term 4. This arrangement will occur in any given year for all MOM students.  There are a few reasons for early Term 1 payments:

1. The majority of the Invoicing will be dealt with prior to the busiest time of the year, that being Term 1, which involves a lot of attention given to new enrolments and new timetables.
2. Early payment secures your place for the New Year.
3. It allows time for MOM to update your records, and better cater to your enquiries and requests.
4. In line with keeping costs down, it is more effective to prepare for Term 1 at a quieter time.
5. It allows parents to know when payment is expected.

CASH PAYMENTS THROUGH SCHOOL & TEACHERS
MOM do not accept cash payments through the school.

OUTSTANDING PAYMENTS
For all those who have not finalised their Termly accounts, we kindly ask as a matter of courtesy and respect, that this is done immediately.   Our teachers have been paid on your behalf and we now require payment to clear your debt. Late charges will apply for all fees that are still outstanding, and the school principals will be notified so they can assist in retrieving any outstanding fees.

DISCONTINUING
MOM goes to great lengths to give the best possible tuition and ensures it hires good quality teachers to enrich your child's learning. To do this we must guarantee the teachers a set timetable for the term. Like everyone, teachers need to budget and financially plan their term and cannot do this if students discontinue once the term has started. This makes for unhappy teachers, and good teachers leave to find positions elsewhere. Once the timetable has been set, your position has been accounted for and set into the timetable. The teachers are paid in advance for the term according to that timetable. Therefore aiming to discontinue after the final cut off day (which is in your invoice) is untenable.

If your child is discontinuing lessons then we ask you notify the MOM OFFICE (not the school office), in writing three (3) weeks before the start of the school term in writing. Failure to do this will mean your child is automatically enrolled/re-enrolled, and payment will be expected by the due date.

ALL STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY RE-ENROLLED AND PAYMENT EXPECTED BY THE INVOICE DATE, UNLESS PROMPT WRITTEN NOTIFICATION OF DISCONTINUING HAS BEEN RECEIVED
